Revolutionising Sustainable Food Sourcing: The Launch of the Sustainable Directory
Today, in May 2024, marks a significant milestone in the journey towards a more supporting our food producers to sustain their food production for the future with the launch of the Sustainable Directory – a groundbreaking platform connecting users with farmers, producers, growers, market gardens, artisan makers, local zero waste/refill stores, community food and garden groups, as well as food resellers such as village stores, butchers, dairy, and fishmongers across the UK and Ireland.
Founded by Rebecca Hyde from Oxfordshire, the Sustainable Directory provides a vital link between cosumers, communties and producers. With a focus on supporting local economies, promoting our lands food producers, connecting people and communities over food, the directory is poised to revolutionise the way people source, connect and enjoy their food. Supporting local producers and enabling them to strengthen their economy and practices - this is what we mean by sustainable!Farming is sustainable. We just need to go back to go maybe forwards and support our land workers more directly - like the good ole days. and empower them to better gaurdian our soil.
Over the past two weeks, the Sustainable Directory has witnessed a remarkable response to its soft launch. The project aims to bridge the gap between consumers and food producers in the UK and Ireland, reconnecting people with locally or nationally sourced, real produce, and bringing communities together to grow more while supporting members.
About the Sustainable Directory:
The Sustainable Directory serves as a comprehensive platform to source UK & Ireland farmers, producers, growers, artisan makers, local zero waste/refill stores, community food groups, butchers, dairy, and fishmongers. Its main aim is to provide the missing link between the user and the producer, empowering consumers to make sustainable food choices while supporting farmers towards better practices and produce quality improvement.
Key Objectives of the Sustainable Directory:
Connecting people directly to producers and their buying options.
Facilitating connections between members and partners offering support, education, training, and mentoring opportunities.
Reconnecting people with real food and reconnecting them with options on our lands food production processes.
Providing wholesale options by connecting buyers directly to sellers.
Fostering connections between people and like-minded local groups and communities.
Ensuring food security and sustainability for future generations in the UK & Ireland.
Offering a fantastic tool for procurement departments to easily access new Britsh and Irish producers
